4th CONFERENCE ON EPISTEMOLOGY - CONEP 4 EPISTEMOLOGY & SEMIOTICS: INFORMATION & SIGN
3-5 December 2021, Kavala, Greece – virtual
The Association of Ancient Greek Philosophy ‘syn Athena’ in collaboration with the Laboratory of Semiotics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is organizing the 4th Conference on Epistemology ‘Epistemology & Semiotics’ dedicated on Information and Sign, which will take place virtually in 3-5 December 2021. After the 1st conference ‘On the unity of knowledge’ (2015), the 2nd conference ‘Didactics of science’ (2017) and the 3rd conference ‘Science & ideology (2019), this year’s conference focuses on the relation between Epistemology and Semiotics, in particular between information and signs, since it is the signs and sign systems, most frequently symbols and symbolic systems (among which also natural languages) that are the main carrier of knowledge and information transmission. The goals of the conference are (i) to update our perspective regarding tendencies in the history of signification and in the history of the study of signification, (ii) to re-estimate the value of signification and in particular of symbolic systems in the understanding and description of reality and (iii) to examine potential alternatives or novel directions that may serve the purpose of understanding and description of reality in improved ways. Researchers are invited to submit abstracts in English or Greek related to all epistemological fields and in particular this year on one or more of the following topics.
MAIN TOPICS
- Semiotics & the sciences (natural/social sciences & health sciences)
- Semiotics & the arts (music, visual arts, dance, theater)
- Semiotics & metaphysics
- Semiotics & modern technology
